SPREADSHEET SYMBOLS
Cells are designated by letter and number. The letters are for columns and the numbers are for rows. "B4" means column B, row 4. The cell designator in the text is the same as the value in the cell. For instance "A3" means the value in cell A3. "D1 + F6" means the value in cell F6 is added to the value in cell D1. "B2 - B1" means the value in B1 subtracted from the value in B2. "B4 * C5" or "B4 x C5" means that the value in cell B4 is being multiplied by the value in cell C5. "G4/B5" means the value in G4 is divided by the value in B5. "E9^2" means the value in E9 to the second power or the value in E9 squared. "F10^(1/2)" means the value in F10 to the 1/2 power or the square root of F10. "Sqrt" means square root. "Sqd" means squared.
+ means plus. - means minus. * or x means times.
/ means divide. ^ means to the power of.
^(1/2) or sqrt means square root. ^2 or sqd means squared.
( ) means to do the operation or operations inside these first.Because some spreadsheets have limitations upon usable symbols, subscripts are shown as small letters and major items are shown as capital letters. This may create some confusion with such letters as "G" which usually denotes the gravitational constant. Here it must denote "g" which is the value of gravity.
