Seven - AFTERTHOUGHTS

The velocity with which time flies is infinite,
as is most apparent to those who look back.

Seneca

This series was intended to cover many things. Each little book contains much information that is new and, at first, difficult to fully comprehend. There were reasons why this series was to be comprised of many little books. The first reason was to prevent the readers from absorbing too much at one time. The second was to keep my monetary budget within reason. The third was to keep my time budget within reason. The fourth was to prioritize so that the most important "revelations" would come first.

There were other reasons, but the most important was the first reason. A person needs to read no more than one of these little books at one time and then sleep on it. There will be questions when one awakens, and one might wish to read the same book again to clear up some gray areas. And the series should be read in the sequence in which it was intended.

The worst part of learning what is found in these pages is not the new ideas. Instead it is the task of first removing the old ideas. The old ideas tend to inhibit and throttle the thought process with notions that are deeply set in one's mind and which do not apply to the new concepts found herein. This is why it is easier for a novice in physics to understand this theory than it is for a person with a lifetime of thought about ideas that are old and obsolete.

It took me years to understand many of the logical consequences of a dynamic medium for light, a medium of which all things are composed. However, the impact of the concept was startling enough that within a day after its initial discovery, the world began to present itself in a different light.

These first four little books were originally intended to be only three little books. The whole series was to require only four books. Now it appears that I have written seven of these little books. In fact, I have no idea how many books will be needed to complete the series or how long it will take to write them. I know only that the series will be complete when it is completed.

The seventh little book now has the index, glossary, and bibliography in it. However, its index does not cover this particular edition of Book Four. Until I update the index, you may wish to make your own notes of where things are to be found.

We spend much of our lives simply surviving. Time seems to go faster with age, and responsibilities seem to grow and require more of the time available. My life is filled with mundane tasks. If it weren't enough to eat, sleep, excrete, and find ways to pay for these privileges, the attorneys and legislators find ways to make us do redundant and demeaning tasks so that they can make a few bucks on our misery. Like everyone else, I have not had time enough to do as many of the important things as I should have.

Please understand that this series was conceived with most of the answers known. Only a few of the details were not fully explored at that time. However, it takes time to discover the best way to present ideas, and to actually write them in a way that others can understand them. My excuses have been given, but I do apologize for having taken so long to write everything in my head that has not already been written.

A lot of time has passed since I wrote the first edition of this book and the things I intended to do for later books have been accomplished. In this edition, I attempted to show more about how and why light behaves as does and to show why certain experiments have the results that they do. The nature of time has been discussed (in Book Five) and now it is a part of this series. The real nature of the equations of relativity have been shown and why many of them are quite valid even though special relativity as a concept is wrong in most respects. The nature of quarks and gluons have been discussed along with other wonders of the "smashing" experiments.

The Hubble constant, the red shift, the expansion of the universe, and the age of the universe have been explained and they are not the same now - indeed, they never were quite what physicists think they are. The real nature of the fourth dimension has been considered and my ideas as what it really is have been presented, along with the proof I have at present.

My intention has always been to present much more to the reader. However, the reader must be patient because my "spare" time was, is, and probably always will be limited, and the answers to come are not so difficult that others cannot find them if I fail to present them very quickly.

Because I am never certain what is around the next bend in the road, I wish to leave you with a few thoughts now. As I see it, the following are true.

(1)     Time travel is not possible, in the direction of the past, in the normal sense of the words. We always travel through time into the future and the rate can vary.

(2)     The speed of light cannot be exceeded by anything made of matter.

(3)     The universe is expanding at a non-uniform rate that has been growing since the last big bang. Consequently, the age of the universe is greater than previously thought, and the Hubble constant is not really a constant.

(4)     As Einstein was supposed to have believed, "God does not play dice with the universe."

And that is enough for now. Thank you for your attention. May your mind be open but skeptical, your curiosity remain great, your ability to satisfy it be always present, and your actions reflect the wisdom in the following quote.

All progress has resulted from people
who took unpopular positions.

Adlai E. Stevenson
